Stud Muffin

With an array of upcoming fall festivities and by that I mean parties I hope I get invited to, a necessity for an elegant box to hold my essentials has got me quite smitten with House of Harlow's charming box clutches. Airing the fierce and crisp look of the Alexander McQueen knuckle clutch and round petite sweetness of the Bottega Veneta minaudiere, the more affordable snap clutch options House of Harlow presents are a treat to cinch your fingers around. In an array of colors and styles the clutches make perfect party frock companions...

Denim Bums

I'm not going to be mean to my celebrity style crushes this week, because I kinda feel like just being a denim bum myself and look like I've clearly thrown the towel in and given up on life...
First of all Rachel, I know you are addressing the print denim trend here, but seriously, with those boots? Obviously you did the right thing adding a frown to your outfit and looking down....just sayin...
And other brunette whose name I don't know, the nineties are so fall 2010, get rid of the boyfriend ripped jeans.

Ready to Roar

With a kick off celebration on wednesday evening, Cinched anxiously awaits Urban Green's The Green Gatsby. All of the twenties inspired collections have really got me in the mood to roar like its the 1920's. Though it goes against all my cinching beliefs, channeling that era is all about dropping the waist line. Shapeless dresses take the town this fall and spring. But not to worry, you can still cinch your neck and wrists in pearls.

To Shop: BHLDN

I tend to go apeshit/ super-excited and obsessed when Houston is blessed with unique shopping, and more so when it is a new concept, like BHLDN. With an array of charming cocktail dresses, collection of statement hair ornaments, and a gallery of jaw dropping gowns, BHLDN redefines the world of bridal salons. Get yourself to Highland Village for their Holiday Card event Wednesday, October 26th.

"inspired by the Dutch word for “to keep,” as well as countless tales from family and friends of the extraordinary weddings they’d been part of, we began dreaming up something new. Our roots are with Anthropologie, so a passion for experience and creating one-of-a-kind moments runs deep. But our offering speaks more to the not-so-everyday occasions—ours is a voice that celebrates a woman’s most anticipated milestones. And one that gives tradition a twist." - BHLDN

Getting Suspended

Not to treat this blog like TRL, but another hot musical video has hit the interwebs, and I can't help but share the fondness I've grown for suspender effect tights. In a haze driven story and addictive tune, Rihanna struts noteworthy hosiery. In the spirit of Halloween, or just to add edge to a prude ensemble, cinch your thighs in...

For Hollow's Eve I go White...

I really can't think of a better blogger to impersonate than White. Pneumonia White.
She's a mystery to us all, a tease. After four weeks, or maybe less, of sharing the world of inherited celine gowns and endless supply of madeira, she has left her fans out to dry. There was nothing like her before on the blog-sphere, she intermixed fashion, fantasy, photography, and well sewn words about her life. I became addicted to her stories. As hooked as she was to madeira, I was to her blog. We will never know what happened to white, or her lawyer, or her bear. The interweb has lost a great one, I'd like to pay my respects and honor her on hollows eve...

In love w a criminal...

Chillin in mah cubicle all morning,  Dr. Dre headphones cinching my brain, and youtube screen up. Spear's latest musical mini movie has hit the webs. This is a legit Spears video, yeah whatever i know there are haters out there. Say what you want to say but some of us have remained loyal fans for a decade, and boy is this video of Toxic quality. I mean, she's had her share of good music videos in her TRL days, but Toxic was legendary...and Criminal is right up its allie. Oh yeah, and the 12 pack abdomen criminal is played by her real life beaux Jason Trawick.  Don't fret, I'm still researching who the designer of the mullet dress in the video...

Manolo is Back...Shoe looks like a lady

If you can still recall the late nineties and early 2000 must have shoes, then you remember that Manolo was a household name, thanks to Carrie Bradshaw. I must confess I really never was into MB's...they were always a little prude for my shoe taste. I love flair and edge, something the label veers off from. And it just so happens that like me, other shoe shoppers have agreed, especially since the red sole began dominating the market a good five years ago. We were all searching for en edge, a sexy statement shoe as opposed to a classic lady-like look.  According to nytimes, shoe designs are turning back in the classic and pretty direction once more, "“Fashion had to turn on its ugly heel and return to beautiful shoes,” Mr. Talley said, citing among the appealing elements of Manolo Blahnik shoes their sleek lines and absence of gimmickry."
Looks like us slutty shoe buyers are no longer going to be a la mode. We better prude it up and start looking for classy shoes. Damn it.

“Manolo’s shoes are very much in the spirit of this moment’s clothes, pared down, with simple lines, and I hate to say ladylike, but classic,” said Linda Fargo, the senior vice president for women’s fashion at Bergdorf Goodman, where recent deliveries of a particular Manolo Blahnik pump sold out so fast, the store was forced to institute a waiting list (nytimes).

Fashion Houston: Spectator Style

Aside from the um, let's just say interesting crowd swarming Wortham Center this week, there was a young fleet of cinched waists spectating Fashion Houston's second night...Playing the statement tone trend in a marigold frock, proving that lace is more in an LBD, and telling a shirt story that a feminine blouse never fails, three gal-pals show Cinched key trends for fall.

Lauren in marigold tone and Brittany in Chantilly lace at Fashion Houston.

Showing that lace never fails, Brittany sports an off the runway frock by Oscar de la Renta. A gift from her sister Noelle Sakowitz, assistant designer to Oscar de la Renta, the softly structured dress is composed of a corseted bustier with black floral Chantilly overlay and embroidered skirt of organza ruffles and black jet beads.

Celeb Crushing

When the weekends roll around one of my favorite things to do aside from sleeping in is getting my juicy celeb gossip in. And by gossip I mean just looking at celeb pics to see what they are wearing. Here are some of my crushes this week...

I'm a Bag-hag, are you?

Shame on Cinched and my never ending love affair for arm candy. No, I don't mean the blonde man models in town for fashion week I've been creeping on, I mean the good old concoctions of leather and stitching that hold all my daily essentials, yeah, the handbag. As most would say I shouldn't pair a GV gathered jersey cocktail dress with a mega bag, I respond: to hell with you, I've got stuff to stuff in this four colored mini luggage tote (go to NM Galleria and ask for Nikki, she will make it happen).

Annina Stefanelli, Fashion Houston

Cinched and her home gurlz spent the evening at Fashion Houston's second night.  I found out one of my ladies is also a bag hag, like me...Lauren paired a marigold Yigal Azrouel number with a 1973 top handled bag. Most importantly, Lauren has brought our attention to the appreciation of a classic. Oldie but a goodie must have been the thought behind Gucci's 1973 redesigns.  As most of this year's fall collections have demonstrated a 1970's spirit, Gucci's handbags have as well. Drawing inspiration from the fashion house's collection of that era, the 1973 bags make a timeless arm candy piece.

Fashion Houston: Robert Rodriguez

Among the household names to show their collections at Fashion Houston is Robert Rodriguez. Trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, the designer has launched three labels, Robert Rodriguez, The Black Label a collection of evening wear, and Robbi and Nikki, a younger take on Rodriguez’s signature designs. This evening October 13, 2011, Rodriguez’ Resort 2012 Collection will grace the runway in Wortham Center, only to proceed his Houston visit Friday with an appearance at Neiman Marcus. Anxiously awaiting a preview of the collection, Cinched at the Waist asks Rodriguez about his first visit to Houston, designing process, and the most important lesson he has learned.

Pleated Skirt

Cinched:   Is this your first visit to Houston?
RR: This is my first time visiting Houston and I am really excited to see and meet all of the fabulous women of Houston. It is important for me to really get to know them and understand what their needs are. I always get great feedback from my customers when I show a collection and that is so special to me.

Fashion Houston: A World of Prints by Camilla

Debuting her playful and colorful Spring 2012 collection on the third night of Fashion Houston was Camilla Franks, designer of Camilla. Last night was the first collection debut in the US for the label. Impressed and fascinated by a world of prints, Cinched at the Waist gathers Frank’s design process, source of inspiration, and her "go for it" philosophy in life. See more from last night on Culturemap.

Q: When designing, what is most important, the process or result?
A: Both are equally as important, you cannot neglect the design process without considering the result. My designs feature colorful digital graphic prints that require a specialized inkjet technology that can be time consuming, complex and difficult to execute. But, I would not have it any other way, as my graphics are an expression of art. I design with the notion that my clothes are like collectable items for women to wear year after year.

Gatsby is Back...and with Tiffany

In my younger and more vulnerable years, my stylist gave me some, joke. I've never had a stylist, but since we are referring to the Great Gatsby in this post, I thought it only appropriate to begin with the novel's first words. For those of you who live under a literary rock, one of the greatest American novels of all time is being remade into a  movie, for the second or third time. I know there is a random made for tv movie out there but we will ignore it. The first film adaptation of Fitzgerald's most famous piece starred Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. In the works is a remake starring Leo Dicaprio as Jay, Isla Fisher as Myrtle, and Tobey Maguire as narrator, Nick Carraway. Word on the street is, the cast will be adorned by Tiffany & Co bling (read bellow).
On a side note and more importantly, for all of you young adults that enjoy roaring like the 1920's you must attend Urban Green's fall soiree, The Green Gatsby, a dazzling event Cinched at the Waist is Chairing. To purchase tickets click away.

Word to my Mother

Word to my mama - Listen cause I ain't gonna say it twice, you were RIGHT, royal blue is a hot damn accessory color for fall! To my beautiful mama whom turns not a day over 35 today, I wish her the most wonderful of birthdays, and congrats for putting up with a waist cinching weirdo of a daughter you have. Now can I borrow the bright blue bag I had forbidden you to purchase?

Fashion Houston: Evening 1, Crowd Favorites

Cinched at the Waist enjoyed an excellent view sitting front row with stylist Eva Harvard and designer Aries Milan, whom will debut her line Kate Kills Pretty tonight at Fashion Houston.
Among my companions last night I caught a couple of other crowd favorites...

Just a Shoe Story

I hop into the cab a cute vested doorman has heroically hailed down, as my  berry buzzes.
Text from a manfriend: "You better be wearing the right soles."
I look down at the gladiators sewn to my footsies since mid May and notice just how much they have gradually expanded with my summer swollen paws.  Even if they were once red soled- you could never notice it now. My summer in the city has left bits of red on sidewalks of New York. Damn it. Its one of those dinners. I consider running back up to grab the new suede reds, but this cab man has already got me half way up town. What does it matter what I wear? I'm playing third wheel tonight anyways. How could I have risked taking these babies out for a stroll with overcast skies? Never.

Christian Louboutin Luxura 140 Pumps

My summer reds and I have gone through a lot. I must confess I've fallen in love with another pair of suede reds to trots this season with. With an ankle strap to contrast my pale tone and platform to slim my short stature and thunder thighs, Louboutin's No. 299 suede and python and I are going steady this fall.

Check out what ensemble I will pair the new reds with after "what I wore Fashion Houston" posts to come...

Fashion Houston: What to Wear: Monday

The extraordinary and marvelous characteristic of Houston's very own fashion week, Fashion Houston, is that attendees get to absorb multiple collections from four different designers each evening. While its customary to attend a show cinched in garb from that designer, Fashion Houston will make us pick and choose.  Monday evening we have a couple of options: we can go all first lady and sport Michelle Obama favored designer, Barbara Tfank OR be on the casual side and sport a Project 360 tee.
Be a groupie and dress the part...

Fashion Houston: Mansyur shoots old hollywood gowns on a modern day chariot

Check out our Article on CultureMap...
New York, Milan, and Paris have completed their fashion weeks. Now it's Houston's turn.
On Monday, the second annual Fashion Houston kicks off four nights of runway styles from 14 designers, ranging from seasoned pros, such as Carmen Marc Valvo, Douglas Hannant, and Barbara Tfank, to up-and-coming stars-to-watch, including Patrick Schwarznegger, Aries Milan and Jerri Moore.
To set the stage for the big event, photographer Dustin Mansyur teamed with creative director Neal Hamil for Fashion Houston's ad campaign.

Styled by Leslie Rivas, with hair and makeup by Ceron, and gowns by Moore, the shoot took place in Momentum Audi's well-shadowed and mechanically-adorned garage, combining the elegance of Moore’s gowns and the beauty of high performance automobiles. (Audi is a prime sponsor of Houston's fashion week.)

Moore's designs are ultra-feminine, making them a good match with the luxurious Audi A8 and high performance Audi R8. For the shoot, Rivas chose a glamorous emerald green silk charmeuse gown, dubbed the “Kelley,” worn by Page Parkes model Lindsay Mallia.

“We felt the juxtaposition of the elegance with the industrial element of the garage creates a nice tension," Mansyur explained.

While Moore’s color and fabric shine through in the classically-styled gown, Mansyur’s composition of the vehicles and post-production effects intensify the richness of the subjects, tying classic fashion with a modern-day need for speed.

“Leslie (the stylist) help me put together the look of an updated 1920's glamour. I wanted the classic in connection with the modern…that juxtaposition to be present in the photos,” Mansyur explained.
With her love of film, Moore draws much of her inspiration from classic Hollywood glamour. “Styles I see in black and white films, I bring to life in color and update them,”  she said.
Ceron’s team enhanced the feeling of Moore's vision by adorning the models with finger wave glamour curls and penciled thin brows. It all made for a stylish way to kick off Houston's stylish week of fashion.

Fashion Houston: Q & A w Jared Lang

As New York, Milan, and Paris have concluded their fashion celebrations, the city of Houston initiates October with Fashion Houston. In six days, designers from all over the world bring their collections to downtown Houston. From October 10th-13th, an array of fashionably talented will trot the Wortham Center. The Fashion Houston 2011 runway lineup includes fashion rookies and veterans with household names to local designers.  The mastermind behind the city's second annual fashion week, Jared Lang, Founder and Co Creator of Fashion Houston is responsible for highlighting Houston as a fashion destination.

Jerri Moore gown, photography by Dustin Mansyur

Q: While I’m very thankful for your leadership in organizing a fashion week for Houston, I wanted to know if it was hard to get together? Houston tends to have the less fashion forward rep, was the demand always there?
A: The reputation continues to surprise myself, and it was definitely motivation for me to take this project on.  Houston indeed has a top retail market, however, because of its ties to the oil and gas industries, the fashion industry tends to be overlooked.  The City of Houston is a very fashion-forward city and I am proud to be able to begin to showcase this.
Q: What crowd do you expect to appreciate the shows this year?
A: I expect the people of Houston in general to appreciate the shows.  Namely for the above-mentioned.  Houston wants to be recognized as a fashion destination.

Q: How is Fashion Houston different from that of the leading cities in fashion in the world?
A: Fashion Houston is different because it is for the people of the city.  It is a production that can be enjoyed from any perspective.

Q: The Houstonian woman can shop. What shopping events are integrated within the shows this year?
A: Each designer will have a trunk show the day/s after their showing at Fashion Houston.

Q: Last year’s Fashion Houston was a huge success. Starting with big names and shopping shows like Net-a-porter’s, and Christian Siriano. How will the lineup this year top last year’s?
A: We will not only feature household names, like Carmen Marc Valvo, Robert Rodriguez, Camilla, and Douglas Hannant, but we will also be featuring up and coming designers such as Fabiola Arias, Norman Ambrose, and Bibhu Mohapatra.  We will also feature special guest Patrick Schwarzenegger and his line Project 360.  And ofourse, as we did last year, and will continue, we will feature one local designer each night.  This year featuring, Jerri Moore, Aries Milan, Chloe Dao, and Cesar Galindo.

Q: Without giving away too many details, is the set up similar to last year?
A: We will keep the classic look as we did last year but have changed it up a bit.  The Audi Pavilion has expanded and will feature a separate VIP lounge.

QWhat evening are you most excited about?
A: Each night is assured to impress and keep the audience engaged.

Fashion Houston: Jerri Moore

Just as I was glued to the front row last year, Cinched at the Waist will be stationed downtown beginning Monday October 10, 2011 at Fashion Houston. Grazing the Wortham Center runway will be immaculate collections by Jerri Moore, Project 360, Robert Rodriguez, Carmen Marc Valvo, and more to come. Anxiously awaiting the collection to initiate Fashion Houston, Cinched shares Q & A with Jerri Moore,  talent behind the gowns to dominate the runway monday evening.

Ariel  -  Kelley -  Boo

Diana  -  Baby  -  Lynn  -  Chelsea

A month or so ago Cinched was lucky to sneak into Fashion Houston's 2011 campaign shoot photographed by Dustin Mansyur and directed by Neil Hamil. Among the talented fashion week composers, was Jerri Moore, designer of collection to kick off Fashion Houston.  Moore's gowns are the stars adorning Fashion Houston's 2011 campaign.
Bringing old Hollywood in a fresh color palette, Jerri Moore creates a collection of classically updated evening wear. "Color is how I update from the old era. I'm inspired by the style in black and white films but color is how I bring them to date, color makes it fresh." And it is with color that the Fashion Houston Campaign shoot began, with the all star gown, the Kelley, an emerald green 100% silk charmeuse and chiffon gown.

Frock Star

Party like a frock, party like a frock star
Party like a frock, party like a frock star

I'm on a waist cinching mission
but I party like a frock star
I'm twirling all around looking good in ma cinched garb

I twist and turn away my  stress
just here to party, I blame the frock not the alchie

shake my head and tassels wild, dance and tap I'm still a child
clip on earrings all the way, never did pierce 'em that day
with Tibi on my waist and Oscar on my head

I party like a frock
party like a frock star
